On Thursday, February 12, the men’s skeleton competition at the 2026 Olympic Games gets underway, but the event has already been rocked by sensational developments and a disqualification.
Details: Before the start of the competition, it emerged that Ukrainian athlete Vladyslav Heraskevych had been disqualified. This was reported by Suspilne, citing the skeleton racer himself.
The decision was later confirmed by official resources of the International Olympic Committee. The ruling was made after Heraskevych refused to comply with the IOC’s Guidelines on Athletes’ Expression.
The Ukrainian had a morning meeting with the organization’s president, Kirsty Coventry, during which no consensus was reached.
We previously reported that Ukrainian skeleton racer Vladyslav Heraskevych had planned to compete at the 2026 Olympics wearing a special helmet dedicated to the memory of those killed by Russian forces.
Heraskevych’s helmet features photographs of fallen athletes, including children who were killed by Russian missile strikes.
