Unfortunately, the tense political climate around the world continues to impact the football calendar.
Details: UEFA officially announced today that Beşiktaş’s home match against Maccabi Tel Aviv in the 5th round of the Europa League will not be held in Istanbul but rather at a neutral venue.
This decision stems from safety concerns for the Israeli players. Turkey has shown strong support for Palestine in its ongoing conflict with Israel, a stance that has fueled tension between the nations.
Currently, the clubs and UEFA are discussing which country will host the match.
Note: Maccabi has been playing its home games in Belgrade, Serbia.
Reminder: Previously, Manchester United fans were injured in clashes with Fenerbahçe ultras.
