Incredible! Aubameyang is the best player in Europe's top five leagues right now
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is turning his return to La Liga into one of the biggest stories of the opening weeks of the season.
Details: The 37-year-old Deportivo de A Coruna striker has scored in each of his first four La Liga appearances of the new campaign. Aubameyang now has four goals in four league matches, showing remarkable consistency after returning to Spanish football this summer.
His latest performance was the most spectacular yet. In Deportivo's 3-2 away victory over Villarreal, the Gabonese forward produced one goal and two assists. Aubameyang eventually decided the contest himself in the 88th minute, taking advantage of a defensive mistake before racing forward and scoring the winning goal.
That display took Aubameyang to six direct goal contributions in La Liga this season: four goals and two assists. No player in Europe's top five leagues currently has more goal contributions, putting the veteran striker alongside the most productive attacking players on the continent during the opening stages of the campaign.
What makes the run even more impressive is its consistency. Aubameyang found the net against Elche, Malaga and Valencia before extending his scoring streak against Villarreal. Deportivo, who returned to the Spanish top flight this season, have therefore received an immediate impact from their experienced summer signing.
It is worth noting that Deportivo signed Aubameyang from Marseille in July for around €1.5 million. The 37-year-old forward agreed a contract with the Spanish club until the summer of 2028.
