Michael Carrick is convinced Kobbie Mainoo is only getting started.
Details: Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has backed the academy graduate to enjoy another major season at Old Trafford. Speaking ahead of the Premier League meeting with Everton, Carrick highlighted Mainoo's development since returning to the squad and praised the midfielder's growing maturity.
“Kobbie can have another big season. He has come back great, and you can see him growing in personality and maturity. He is still so young, and there is loads to still come from him, which is great,” Carrick said.
Carrick also views the increased competition in Manchester United's midfield as a positive factor for Mainoo rather than a problem. The coach believes a stronger group gives the players an opportunity to learn from each other while maintaining high standards in training and matches.
The United boss has been particularly impressed by Mainoo's desire to keep improving. According to Carrick, the midfielder remains hungry to learn despite the progress he has already made, and the coaching staff continue to work with him on different elements of his game without restricting the qualities that made him stand out in the first place.
It is worth noting that Mainoo made his first Premier League start of the 2026/27 season in Manchester United's 5-2 victory over Ipswich, producing a display Carrick described as immense. Earlier this year, the midfielder also committed his long-term future to the club by signing a contract running until 2031.
