Barcelona may finally be getting closer to welcoming one of their midfield leaders back.

Details: According to Mundo Deportivo, Frenkie de Jong is aiming to return to Barcelona's squad training in October, following the international break. The midfielder's recovery remains dependent on the condition of his right knee, and the plan will only go ahead if he experiences no further discomfort.

The Dutch midfielder has therefore set himself a clear target, but Barcelona are not expected to rush his rehabilitation. Any recurrence of pain in the affected knee could force the player and the club's medical staff to reconsider the timetable.

De Jong has been unavailable since suffering the injury during the summer. Barcelona officially confirmed on July 23 that medical tests had revealed a tear of the medial collateral ligament in his right knee. At that stage, the club and the player agreed to continue with conservative treatment under the supervision of the medical staff rather than immediately opting for surgery.

The coming weeks will therefore be crucial for the 29-year-old midfielder. If his knee responds positively and there are no new complications, October could mark the beginning of his gradual return to full training and, subsequently, competitive action.

It is worth noting that Barcelona's official medical report stated that De Jong's progress would be monitored over the following weeks, without setting a specific return date.
