Spain, Almeria, UD Almeria Stadium

Almería and Cádiz will meet on Sunday, 6 September, in the fourth round of the Spanish Segunda. Kick-off is scheduled for 21:00 CET. I am backing the winner of this match.

H2H and statistical facts

  • Almería have failed to score in two consecutive matches.
  • Cádiz have won just one of their last 15 games.
  • Cádiz have recorded only one away win in 2026.
  • Almería have not lost to Cádiz at home since 2019.

Almería began the season with a convincing 3-0 home win over Eldense. García Pimienta’s side immediately showed that they can play aggressively and control matches on home soil. The three points in the opening round looked like a strong statement for the season, particularly given that Almería are regarded as one of the clubs capable of challenging for a return to the top flight.

However, that promising start was followed by two identical 1-0 defeats against Tenerife and Sabadell. The result in the latter match was particularly painful, as losing to a newly promoted Segunda side came as a genuine surprise.

At the same time, the opening matches do not suggest that Almería have any major defensive problems. The team have conceded just two goals in three rounds, both of them coming away from home. Their record at home is even more impressive: in the opening round, Almería not only scored three times but also kept a clean sheet. Returning to their home ground should therefore give the team an additional confidence boost.

Squad building also remains an important factor ahead of the meeting with Cádiz. García Pimienta is gradually gaining a wider selection of players, but the team still need to develop an understanding between their numerous new arrivals.

Cádiz have made a much more cautious start to the season. In the opening round, they hosted Segunda newcomers Celta B and drew 0-0. Backed by their supporters, the hosts looked the more active side but failed to convert the chances they created. As a result, the season began without a goal or a victory, although the team picked up their first point.

Cádiz produced a much more entertaining encounter in the second round. Away to Eldense, the team twice found themselves behind but managed to fight back on both occasions. The final score of 2-2 earned them another point, with Ibon Sánchez and Antonio Cordero getting on the scoresheet. Their ability to respond after conceding was one of the main positives from that game.

The third round brought another draw, this time a 1-1 result against Valladolid. Cádiz took the lead through a penalty converted by Iza, but the visitors restored parity before half-time. In the second half, goalkeeper Jokin Ezkieta had to make several saves to keep Cádiz in the game, while Valladolid created enough chances to claim all three points. Cádiz therefore have three points, three goals scored and three conceded after three rounds.

Cádiz’s main feature at the start of the season is that the team are still undergoing a major rebuild. Head coach Albert Celades noted that as many as 15 new players have joined the squad, while he himself has been working with the team for only around three and a half weeks. As a result, there are still visible issues with understanding between the players and the physical condition of some members of the squad.

What to bet on?

On paper, Almería are the favourites thanks to home advantage and their more convincing opening win of the season. Cádiz, meanwhile, have shown impressive resilience so far. Given the cautious style of both teams and Almería’s struggles in front of goal over the last two rounds, an open game throughout the 90 minutes should not be expected. At the same time, home advantage could help Almería end their losing run. My prediction is a home win.
