Spain, Valencia, Estadio Mestalla

The fourth-round La Liga match between Valencia and Barcelona will take place on 6 September at Mestalla. The hosts have collected just one point from three matches, while the reigning champions remain perfect and have already scored 12 goals.

Valencia: poor start and serious squad problems

Carlos Corberán's side began the season with a goalless draw against Celta Vigo before losing 1-0 to Betis and 3-1 to Deportivo. After three rounds, Valencia sit 17th and have looked inconsistent both in attack and defence.

Their situation is made more difficult by a lengthy injury list that includes Justin de Haas, Sergi Canós, José Copete, Diego López, Guido Rodríguez and Umar Sadiq. However, Valencia did manage to beat Barcelona 3-1 at home last season.

Barcelona: three victories and 12 goals scored

Hansi Flick's side have made an almost perfect start to the league campaign. The Catalans thrashed Elche 5-0, then beat Athletic 2-0 and defeated Rayo Vallecano 5-2.

Raphinha has been particularly impressive, already scoring five goals and providing one assist in three rounds. Barcelona offer plenty of variety in attack, while Lamine Yamal and Anthony Gordon add pace on the flanks.

Match facts and head-to-head record

  • Valencia have collected only one point from their opening three matches.
  • Barcelona have won all three league matches by an aggregate score of 12-2.
  • Valencia beat the Catalans 3-1 at Mestalla last season.

The favourites should confirm the difference in quality: Valencia vs Barcelona prediction

Valencia are capable of putting up a fight at home and already beat the Catalans at this stadium last season. However, the hosts' current form and numerous squad absences make their task considerably more difficult.

Barcelona have started the league campaign with far greater confidence and regularly create a large number of chances. If Flick's side maintain their current tempo, their attacking potential should be enough to secure another victory.
