"I have nothing to say" — Simeone shuts down Julián Álvarez question
The silence around Julián Álvarez is getting louder.
Details: Atlético Madrid head coach Diego Simeone gave an extremely terse response when he was asked about Julián Álvarez following his team's 3-0 La Liga defeat away to Athletic Club on September 5.
After the final whistle, a reporter asked Simeone why Álvarez had not been seen taking part in the post-match work with the other players. The Argentine coach clearly did not appreciate the question and immediately cut the discussion short:
"Are you really asking this question? I have nothing to say."
The episode comes at a particularly tense moment for Álvarez. The striker entered the match at San Mamés as a substitute and was met with boos and whistles from sections of Atlético's travelling support. His situation has been under intense scrutiny in recent weeks following a turbulent end to the summer transfer window and persistent speculation about his future.
Despite the rumours, Álvarez remains an Atlético Madrid player after the summer market closed. It is worth noting that Transfermarkt currently values the 26-year-old Argentine centre-forward at €100 million, while his contract with the Madrid club runs until June 2030.
