On the night of Friday, April 11, a Copa Libertadores match between Colo-Colo and Fortaleza ended in a true tragedy: two fans lost their lives. The prosecutor's office has launched an investigation into the incident.
Details: According to TyC, the prosecutor's office has already charged a police officer suspected of being involved in the deaths of the two supporters. One fan died at the scene, while the other succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
Minister of Public Security Luis Cordero also reported that the officer has been suspended from duty. Additionally, Pamela Venegas, head of the Estadio Seguro program, has resigned.
Quote: "A stampede occurred, resulting in a barrier collapse, and we are currently investigating whether a police vehicle was involved in the fatalities. The individual driving the vehicle has been charged, although he has not been arrested as there is currently no basis for detention," stated prosecutor Francisco Morales.
Reminder: News of the fatalities quickly spread through the stadium during the match, sparking mass brawls and unrest. In the 72nd minute, numerous fans stormed the field, and the match was ultimately not completed. At that point, the score remained 0-0.
