Efraín Juárez, coach of Pumas UNAM, did not hide his frustration after his team's defeat against Rayados de Monterrey (1-3) and launched harsh criticisms against Sergio Ramos and the match officiating. The university coach deemed the Spanish defender's behavior unacceptable, especially for the elbow he delivered to Pablo Bennevendo, an action that, in his view, should have been punished with an early expulsion.
"It saddens me that yesterday my player declared it would be an honor to play against him and today he elbows him. I've been to his country, to South America, and they don't treat you like that. We must always be the example," Juárez expressed with evident frustration, in statements collected by ESPN.
The coach insisted that Ramos should have left the game from the 20th minute and not at the end, as it ended up happening. For him, if a local player had committed the same foul, the punishment would have been immediate.
"If someone from our country had done it, they would have left by the 20th minute and not the 90th to compensate. That's what bothers me," he concluded.
On the other hand, Juárez highlighted the difference in outlook between the two teams. While Monterrey is already out of the CONCACAF Champions Cup (eliminated by Vancouver Whitecaps), Pumas remains alive in all competitions. "They'll watch it on TV; we're going to fight for Conca and the league," he stated confidently.
Alongside the coach's statements, the club issued a statement demanding that the Refereeing Commission analyze the officiating performance. In the message, the auriazules expressed their dissatisfaction with decisions they believe directly affected the score and called for measures to improve officiating in the league.
