James Kwesi Appiah, the current coach of Sudan's national team, has talked about rumors suggesting he might go back to coaching Ghana's Black Stars, a team he did very well with before.
Appiah, who is 64 years old, is known for being the first African coach to take Ghana to the FIFA World Cup. He did this in 2014. Even though he had great success with Ghana before, he said he is not planning to return to the Ghanaian team right now. He made it clear that he is fully committed to his job with Sudan.
“If you are a professional coach, you should always be open to new chances, but right now, I have a contract with Sudan,” Appiah said in an interview with Ghana Soccer Net. “I am concentrating on my work with Sudan, and I don’t want to go against what I’m saying.”
In sharp contrast to Ghana's dismal campaign, in which the Black Stars were unable to qualify under Otto Addo, Appiah just achieved Sudan's qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Appiah was given the responsibility of reviving Sudan's national squad after agreeing to a three-year deal in October 2023. The coach is committed to his position with the Falcons of Jediane, and his efforts have already started to show dividends.
Appiah has stated that improving on the team's recent achievements is his top objective right now, with his attention firmly fixed on Sudan.
