Sensation at Roland Garros! Pegula knocked out in round of 16 by world No. 361 in WTA rankings

The round of 16 clash at the French Open between France’s Louane Boisson and America’s Jessica Pegula looked like a walk in the park for the world No. 3. But what unfolded was a genuine shocker.
Details: Boisson, currently ranked 361st in the WTA rankings, had never before made it through Grand Slam qualifying in her career. But at her home Slam, Roland Garros, she stormed into the round of 16, where she faced third seed Pegula.
The opening set went to the world No. 3, who confidently outplayed her opponent 6-3. But what followed was a real battle in the remaining sets. After two hours and six minutes of gripping tennis, Boisson emerged victorious in both sets, winning 6-4, 6-4.
As a result, Boisson advances to the quarterfinals, where she will meet sixth seed Mirra Andreeva. Pegula, meanwhile, once again falls short of the Roland Garros quarterfinals—her best result at the French major remains just out of reach.
Reminder: Boisson entered the tournament thanks to a wild card. Previously, she became the lowest-ranked player to reach the last 16 at Roland Garros since 2018.
