Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams lauds coach Hugo Broos for trusting young players at the World Cup
Ronwen Williams has applauded Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos for being fearless at the ongoing World Cup.
Williams' joy at Broos stems from the impressive runs Relebohile Mofokeng and Thapelo Maseko had in the competition.
Maseko netted the winner for Bafana against South Korea in their last group A match which saw them qualify for the last-32 where they lost to Canada.
"We need to give credit to the coach for trusting them at this big level, it can only do their careers wonders. I wish I had played a World Cup at 20-years-old because I know what that would have done for my career," said Williams.
Williams singled out Maseko as the Mamelodi Sundowns player forced a move away from Chloorkop to Cyprus which according to the captain has done him a world of good.
“The move helped Maseko because he wasn't in a very good space. We saw glimpses of him for his team in Cyprus, but when he arrived into the camp we could see the energy, how fit he was and how he was dribbling. Going into the tournament we know we had a weapon in him because he is so deadly and powerful,” said the goal-minder.
And he also mentioned the rise of Mofokeng who has gone to Belgium from Orlando Pirates.
"For Rele it's amazing and we are all happy and proud, and we'll continue supporting him," concluded Williams.
