San Antonio Bulo Bulo made a dream start to their first-ever Copa Libertadores campaign with a dramatic 3–2 victory over Paraguayan giants Olimpia. The Bolivian side, champions of the 2024 Apertura and newcomers to international competition, secured the historic win with a penalty converted by Julio Herrera in the 101st minute, with no time left on the clock for a restart.
Played at the Félix Capriles Stadium in Cochabamba, the match was packed with emotion. Sebastián Viveros opened the scoring with a powerful strike, before Hugo Benítez equalized for Olimpia. Luis Barbosa restored the lead for the home side with a cheeky chip before being sent off, and Richard Ortiz responded quickly to make it 2–2. Despite being down to ten men, Bulo Bulo held on, and Herrera’s last-gasp penalty sealed a famous victory.
With this win, San Antonio shares the lead in Group H with Vélez Sarsfield, who also opened with a dramatic 2–1 victory over Peñarol. Matchday 2 will see San Antonio visit Montevideo to face the Uruguayan side.
