Argentinian top club River Plate has extended the contract of their 16-year-old central midfielder Franco Mastantuono, touted as one of the most promising footballers of his generation.

The teenager's new contract is set to run until the end of 2026. The club has included a record-breaking clause for Argentine football of 45 million euros in the agreement. However, in the last 10 days of the transfer window, this clause escalates to 50 million euros.

This means that Mastantuono has the chance to become the most expensive player in the history of the Argentine championship. Currently, the record belongs to Enzo Fernandez, whom River Plate sold to Benfica in the summer of 2022 for 44 million euros.

Mastantuono is the second youngest player in River Plate's history. He made his debut for the club's first team at the age of 16 years, 5 months, and 14 days. The record is held by Matteo Musacchio at 16 years, 3 months, and 14 days.

Additionally, Mastantuono is the youngest goal scorer in River Plate's history. He scored his first goal at the age of 16 years, 5 months, and 25 days.

In the current season, Mastantuono has played 10 matches for River Plate and scored 1 goal.

It's worth mentioning that River Plate has already sold their top talent Claudio Echeverri to Manchester City for 15 million euros. It is expected that the English champions will loan him to Girona.
