Ricardo Centurión is officially back in professional football. The 32-year-old Argentine forward has joined Bolivian side Oriente Petrolero, marking his return to the game after nearly two years away, according to Minuto NQN. Centurión, once a standout for Boca Juniors during Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s tenure, had been without a club since a troubled exit from Vélez Sarsfield in early 2023.
After dropping hints on social media about his return, Centurión was formally unveiled alongside Oriente Petrolero’s secretary general, Gustavo Gutiérrez. The club had to clear key obstacles to finalize the signing, including lifting a FIFA-imposed ban due to outstanding debts and freeing up a foreign player slot. These administrative hurdles were resolved just in time for the announcement.
Centurión, known for his flair and pace, enjoyed successful spells with Boca Juniors and Racing Club but also faced setbacks off the field. His disappearance from Vélez raised concerns about his future in the sport. Now, with a new contract for the current season, he has the chance to write a new chapter.
Oriente Petrolero hopes his talent and experience can boost their campaign in the Bolivian league and help the former star find redemption on the pitch.
