Nigeria has written a new chapter in the history of African football. The Flamingos qualified for the final of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup with a commanding 3-1 victory over Brazil on Wednesday 4 November in the semi-finals of the tournament being held in Morocco.

Spurred on by a goal from Queen Joseph and a brace from Bashiru, the Nigerians got the better of the Brazilians to secure their place in the final. This victory marks an unprecedented achievement in the history of African women’s football.

Nigeria has become the first African nation to reach the final of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. The Flamingos now have the chance to turn this feat into a world title.

To do so, they will have to overcome Japan, their opponents in the final, scheduled for Saturday 7 November at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat. The Nigerians will be aiming to win the very first world title in their history in this age group.
