Pape Gueye admitted to having had a difficult night following Villarreal’s 0-6 defeat on Tuesday 3 November in the Champions League. It was a nightmarish evening in which the Spanish club conceded four goals in just seven minutes in the first half.

Speaking to DAZN, the Senegalese international admitted he struggled to get to sleep following this debacle against Paris Saint-Germain, which remains hard to take for the Villarreal players.

“I didn’t sleep much because we’re trying to understand what happened. It was the first time that’s ever happened to me; it’s the first time I’ve conceded six goals in a match,” he explained.

Pape Gueye also highlighted the difficulties his team faced in dealing with the movement of the Parisian players. According to him, the danger didn’t come solely from the opposition’s midfield, but from the entire Parisian side.

“It wasn’t just the midfielders moving all over the place; it’s a team effort. There were times when Hakimi was right next to me, or other times the young Mayulu. When it came to their movement, they really knew how to get around.”
