MLB has concluded its investigation into San Diego Padres player Tucupita Marcano and his possible involvement in betting activities.
According to The Guardian, the league confirmed that the baseball player placed 387 bets on baseball, including 231 on MLB games, between 2022 and 2023, totaling over $150,000. All bets were placed on the team he was playing for at the time, the Pittsburgh Pirates, with 25 of those bets on his own team to lose. Marcano continued betting even while injured. MLB confirmed his actions and issued him a lifetime ban.
Additionally, four other MLB players have been suspended for one year due to lower-level gambling violations. These players placed smaller bets on games that did not involve their own teams.
In related news, the English Football Association has accused West Ham midfielder Lucas Paquetá of attempting to deliberately receive yellow cards on four occasions, linked to bets on those bookings. The organization is seeking a lifetime ban for the footballer.
