There has long been talk of redeveloping Milan's stadium, which a Milan fan would call San Siro and an Inter fan would call Giuseppe Meazza. But both notable clubs have abandoned its idea.
According to Football Italia, citing Milan mayor Beppe Sala, Milan and Inter have turned down the redevelopment of the famous stadium. But they are interested in buying back the old stadium and the surrounding land, as well as building a new arena. However, San Siro cannot be demolished because of the cultural significance of the stadium. Therefore, the clubs have three ways.
- The first: continue to play at San Siro. This path cannot be avoided for some time, as clubs have until February 2025 to submit a stadium project. Without this, the tax office will not provide an assessment of the land for the arena.
- The second: each builds its own separate stadium. This plan has been in the works by both clubs for months. Milan have bought a plot of land in San Donato, while Inter have identified a site for a new stadium in Rozzano. But this option would be more expensive for each club, and would also rule out the possibility of buying out the San Siro ground.
- Third: a new shared stadium. There is no official confirmation yet, but it is believed that the clubs could build a new stadium in San Donato, on Milan's land. The Rossoneri are further advanced in their project than Inter, so the clubs could join forces and reduce not only money but also time.
