The Edmonton Oilers secured a victory in the fifth game of the Stanley Cup Final with a score of 5-3, reducing their series deficit to 3-2.
Captain and leader of the Oilers, Connor McDavid, scored three points in this game, bringing his total to 42 points this season. Thus, he has become the third player in Stanley Cup Playoffs history to surpass 40 points, joining Mario Lemieux and Wayne Gretzky.
It is also noteworthy that in the previous game, Connor McDavid recorded three assists, allowing him to surpass the legendary Wayne Gretzky for the most assists in a single Stanley Cup Playoff. Gretzky had 31 assists, and McDavid now has 32.
It's worth noting that only one team in the history of the finals has managed to come back from a 0-3 series deficit. In 1942, the Toronto Maple Leafs accomplished this feat against Detroit to win the trophy.
