Atlético Madrid faced Sparta Prague away in the fifth round of the UEFA Champions League. The "Rojiblancos" quickly opened the scoring, thanks to a goal from Julián Álvarez.

In the 14th minute, Atlético won a free kick about 25 meters from the goal. Argentine forward Julián Álvarez opted for a direct strike, and it paid off as he scored a stunning goal, putting Atlético ahead in what turned out to be a highly successful match for them.

After celebrating with his teammates, Álvarez performed his now-signature gesture: folding his middle fingers while extending his index fingers and pinkies. This is a nod to the iconic Spider-Man, a legendary comic book character still beloved worldwide.

Why is Julián Álvarez called Spider-Man?

It all goes back to his childhood nickname, "Spider." He was given this moniker early in his career in Argentina. When Álvarez joined Manchester City, journalists were curious about the origins of this nickname, but he only revealed that it had stuck with him since he was 4 or 5 years old.

His father explained that the nickname came from his playing style—it was extremely difficult to take the ball away from Julián, as if he had multiple legs like a spider.

"He was so small but ran incredibly fast, and no one could take the ball from him," Álvarez's father shared.

The Spider-Man connection doesn't stop there. The Argentine forward has celebrated past titles wearing superhero masks—donning a red one for River Plate's championship and a blue one after winning the 2022 World Cup.

Reminder: On August 12, 2024, Álvarez signed a six-year contract with Atlético Madrid. The transfer fee amounted to €75 million plus €20 million in add-ons.

On a side note, Mia Khalifa, a former adult film actress, recently denied rumors linking her to Atlético Madrid player Julián Álvarez.
