Barcelona make official statement on Julián Álvarez transfer
Barcelona have broken their silence on one of the biggest transfer sagas of the summer.
Details: Barcelona director of football Deco has spoken in detail about the club's failed attempt to sign Julián Álvarez from Atlético Madrid. Speaking to RAC1, the Portuguese executive insisted that the Catalans acted correctly throughout the negotiations and denied putting pressure on the Argentine striker to publicly push for an exit.
“Barcelona did not pressure Julián Álvarez to publicly express his desire to leave Atlético Madrid. It was his own decision. We've done things right. We made a formal and appropriate offer, but there was no response from Atleti. They always told us they didn't want to sell him, and you can't keep insisting on the same issue over and over. We made an offer to pay €100m over three seasons. There are clubs that pay in FIVE instalments. I have no problem with Mateu Alemany; I haven’t done anything to him,” Deco said.
It is worth noting that Atlético Madrid's board had publicly backed the club's decision not to negotiate Julián Álvarez's transfer to Barcelona. The Madrid side stated that there was zero consideration of the striker's departure to the Catalan club. Álvarez remains under contract with Atlético until 2030.
