Mexico, one of the hosts of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, will see one of its greatest-ever goalkeepers make his final appearances for the national team during the tournament.
Details: Goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa has confirmed that this World Cup will be the last of his career. He plans to retire from professional football once the tournament comes to an end.
Quote: “The Mexico national team has always been my compass, my guiding force both in my career and in my life. I cannot imagine my career without the national team. I don’t know what it would have been without it.
As my time with the national team comes to an end, I no longer see any meaning in football. I don’t see any reason to keep playing. I have enjoyed every single moment here. I gave everything I had on the pitch. I leave with peace in my heart, my head held high, and immense pride in having lived through this experience,” Ochoa said.
As a reminder: Hervé Renard has officially been appointed as the new head coach of Tunisia for the remainder of the 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
