Jean Florent Ibenge, the former coach of the DR Congo national team, has expressed his sadness and rage at the current security situation between the DRC and Rwanda. He emphasized the pain and loss of innocent lives in a heartfelt Instagram post, emphasizing the need of peace and collective remembrance.
Ibenge recalled a defining moment in 2016 when DR Congo won on Rwandan soil, a victory that symbolized unity and tribute to victims. Before that match, he urged his players to fight not for themselves, but for those who had lost their lives.
“Every life lost must count. We must fight to ensure that such horrors never happen again,” he wrote.
With more than 3,000 deaths since the M23 attacks in eastern DRC, Ibenge’s message serves as a powerful call for justice and an end to violence. He insists that the pain of the people should never be ignored or trivialized.
