Jaime Lozano to Lead Pachuca at Club World Cup After Almada’s Exit

Jaime Lozano has been named the new head coach of Pachuca ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup, Súper Deportivo reported. The Mexican manager replaces Guillermo Almada, who stepped down on May 28 after disagreements with Grupo Pachuca. Lozano, a former Olympic bronze medalist with Mexico’s U-23 team and 2023 Gold Cup winner with the senior national team, takes over a squad facing tight timelines.
Pachuca initially approached Matías Almeyda, but the Argentine turned down the role due to the club’s urgency in closing a deal. He had also been contacted by Chivas and Monterrey, but declined both offers for similar reasons.
Lozano’s coaching résumé includes stints with Querétaro, Necaxa, and the national team. He will now lead Pachuca in Group H of the Club World Cup, with matches scheduled against RB Salzburg, Real Madrid, and Al-Hilal on June 18, 22, and 26. Pachuca is also set to compete in the Leagues Cup, which kicks off in late July.
