Last summer, now Sir Gareth Southgate ended his eight-year tenure with the England national team. Nearly a year on—ample time to reflect from a distance—the coach still feels he made the right call.

Details: Speaking at his knighthood ceremony, Southgate admitted he doesn't miss the job of being a manager.

Quote: "It's a bit strange [not managing England], but I also don't miss it. I think it's important for me to sit on the sofa and stay out of the way. It's their job now, and I believe it's vital to give the team as much space as possible.

Until that burden lifts, you don't realize just how many hours of the day were spent thinking about how to make England better, what's going on with the players, what could be changed or done differently," Southgate told BBC Sport.

Reminder: It was recently reported that Southgate offered his services to the Polish national team. The local federation's bosses confirmed his interest but stated they would prefer someone more familiar with Polish football to take charge of the squad.
