Mexican football says goodbye to one of its most consistent and decorated players of the past decade. José Juan “Gallito” Vázquez has officially retired, closing a remarkable career that took him from the country’s lower divisions to the top of Liga MX, as reported by LigaMX.net.

The midfielder began his journey with Atlético Comonfort in Mexico’s Third Division, winning the Apertura 2007 title. He later moved through Cuervos Negros, América Manzanillo, and Celaya, earning promotion to the second tier in 2011. His major breakthrough came in 2012 with León, where he helped the team secure promotion and quickly became a key figure in their back-to-back league titles in 2013 and 2014.

Vázquez then joined Chivas, contributing to their 2017 treble under coach Matías Almeyda, lifting the Liga MX, Copa MX, and Supercopa trophies. In 2018, he added another league title with Santos Laguna before stints at Toluca and Tijuana. His career came full circle in the Liga de Expansión, where he won the 2023 Apertura and 2024 Campeón de Campeones with Cancún FC.

He ended his playing days in Ecuador with Aucas, logging 15 appearances across domestic league and Copa Sudamericana matches. In total, Vázquez played 351 Liga MX games, earning a reputation for humility, relentless work, and quiet leadership.
