On February 22, the final match of the 2026 Olympic hockey tournament took place. The gold medals were contested by Team USA and Team Canada.

Before the start of the Games, both teams were among the main favorites, and they delivered a closely fought battle in the final. The Americans struck first early in the opening period—Matthew Boldy scored his second goal of the tournament. The Canadians responded late in the second period, with Cale Makar finding the back of the net. Regulation time wasn't enough to determine the winner, and in overtime, fortune favored the Americans. Jack Hughes netted the decisive goal.

It's worth noting that this is Team USA's first Olympic hockey gold since 1980. This victory marks their third in history, following triumphs in 1960 and 1980. Interestingly, the Americans hadn't won an Olympic medal since 2010, when they lost to Canada in the final.
