FIFA Opens Special Transfer Window Ahead of 2025 Club World Cup

FIFA has announced a major update to player registration rules ahead of the expanded 2025 Club World Cup, introducing a special transfer window specifically for the tournament. As reported by Infobae, participating clubs will be allowed to sign new players between June 1 and June 10, with a focus on attracting talent from non-participating teams.
The adjustment aims to account for the varying league calendars worldwide while ensuring top-level competition. South American giants River Plate and Boca Juniors, among others, will be able to finalize their squads by the June 10 deadline. A second window will also be open from June 27 to July 3, allowing clubs to replace players whose contracts expire mid-tournament—provided it aligns with a regular domestic registration period.
Set to be the largest Club World Cup in history, the 2025 edition will feature 32 elite teams from all six confederations and span 63 matches. The tournament kicks off June 14 at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium and concludes July 13 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
FIFA emphasized that the new rule is designed to “ensure the best players can participate through the end of the tournament” and to offer clubs “the flexibility needed to compete at the highest level.” The regulation, approved last October, requires participating nations to authorize this special registration window.
This measure, FIFA says, reflects its commitment to modernizing football logistics and promoting a level playing field. “We’re determined to deliver a fair and exciting tournament that showcases the global nature of club football,” said president Gianni Infantino in a recent press briefing.
