Fernando Gago Named Head Coach of Necaxa in Liga BBVA MX

Fernando Gago is returning to Liga BBVA MX as the new head coach of Necaxa after recently being dismissed from his position as Boca Juniors' manager, TV Azteca reported. The Argentine coach is already familiar with Mexican football, having previously led Chivas in 32 matches, where he recorded 14 wins, 9 draws, and 9 losses. His previous experience in the league provides him with valuable insight into the competitive environment and the demands of Mexican football.
This coaching change follows the departure of Nicolás Larcamón, who left Necaxa to join Cruz Azul ahead of the Apertura 2025 tournament, scheduled to begin on July 11. Larcamón managed Necaxa in 19 games, with a record of 10 wins, 3 draws, and 6 losses, successfully guiding the team to the quarterfinals of the Clausura 2025. His tenure showed a solid performance for the club.
Necaxa issued an official statement highlighting Fernando Gago’s distinguished career as a modern football figure, emphasizing his winning mentality, tactical vision, and leadership abilities. The club's management believes that these attributes, combined with his international experience and competitive spirit, will help build on last season’s progress and raise the team’s performance in the upcoming campaign. It has been a disappointing year for the former midfielder, who has come under fire from one of his former players in the last hours, but Necaxa is placing its trust in Gago’s profile to strengthen the squad and achieve better results in what is expected to be a demanding and competitive tournament.
