Evra himself announced on his Instagram page that he will miss the final due to the tragic passing of his elder sister, who died at 56 after a courageous 20-year battle with cancer.
"Hi guys. I was supposed to come to Bilbao tomorrow for the final in person to show you support, sharing my positive energy. But unfortunately, I have to go to Paris for the funeral of my sister on the same day as the final. She was 56, fighting against the cancer for 20 years," Evra said.
In the same video, the Frenchman urged Manchester United players to give their all on the pitch tomorrow and bring home the trophy for their fans, who have been waiting so long for major victories.
For the record, Evra spent eight years at Man United from 2006 to 2014. During that time, he played 379 matches, scoring 10 goals and providing 29 assists. He won the 2008 Champions League with the team and claimed the Premier League title five times.
