Domènec Torrent Confirmed as Monterrey's New Coach, Eyes Andrés Sánchez as First Signing

Monterrey has officially named Domènec Torrent as their new head coach, marking the beginning of a new era for the club ahead of the Club World Cup and upcoming Liga MX tournaments. “This city beats for Monterrey. Now we beat together, míster!” read the club’s announcement on social media, highlighting Torrent’s global experience and prior stint in Mexican football.
The 62-year-old Spanish manager is expected to arrive in Nuevo León on Saturday and will be officially presented on Sunday. He will begin working with the squad on Monday, May 27, as Rayados prepare for a challenging group at the Club World Cup featuring Inter Milan, River Plate, and Urawa Red Diamonds. Torrent brings a rich résumé, having served as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City before leading New York City FC, Flamengo, Galatasaray, and Atlético de San Luis.
And it is from San Luis that Torrent may secure his first reinforcement: goalkeeper Andrés Sánchez. The young shot-stopper was one of the standout performers under Torrent’s guidance last year and is reportedly at the top of the coach’s wishlist for Monterrey. With Esteban Andrada and Luis Cárdenas struggling to fully convince, bolstering the goalkeeper position is a clear priority.
With Torrent on the sidelines and Sánchez potentially joining him, Monterrey is making a bold move to reclaim domestic dominance and compete on the international stage with renewed ambition.
