Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé, as is known, was hospitalized after the start of the Club World Cup due to a bout of acute gastroenteritis. The French newspaper L'Equipe has provided further details about what happened during that time.
According to the publication, Mbappé began feeling unwell during the team's flight from Spain to Miami on June 14. The forward started experiencing dehydration, prompting the decision to take him to the hospital, where he was put on an IV drip.
Medical examinations revealed that Mbappé’s gastroenteritis was caused by bacteria found in poultry, which led to food poisoning. As a result of the illness, the Frenchman lost 6 kilograms.
Additionally, he was forced to miss the entire group stage of the Club World Cup, and in both the round of 16 and quarterfinals, he only came on as a substitute—though he still managed to score against Borussia Dortmund. Whether Mbappé will start in the semifinal against PSG remains uncertain.
