The head of the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) has made a bombshell announcement.
Details: According to him, the Argentina national team led by Lionel Messi has been declared the winner of the Finalissima—the showdown between the champions of Europe and South America.
The reason behind this decision, he explained, was the European side's withdrawal from the fixture. The CONMEBOL president accused Spain of sabotaging the long-awaited clash:
"Argentina are two-time Finalissima champions... Spain simply refused to take the field and play," the association president declared.
It’s worth noting that the Finalissima was set to be a blockbuster showdown between Messi and Barcelona’s young sensation Lamine Yamal, but the match was doomed not to happen, as the teams failed to agree on a new venue after it became impossible to play in Qatar.
Reminder: The Argentina national team has confirmed its next friendly opponent—a national team from Africa.
