James Rodríguez has established himself as one of the most important figures in Liga MX and the football beacon of Club León. Since his arrival in January 2025, the Colombian has revolutionized Mexican football with his class, recording 2 goals and 5 assists in 11 matches. His impact on La Fiera sparked hopes of a golden era, but his recent statements about a near retirement have raised alarms among fans who longed to see him shine for longer.
James's words, delivered in an interview with Chiringuito TV and reported by Diario Olé, made his plans clear:
“I want to play the 2026 World Cup and see if I continue for one more year or two if my body responds well, and if not, no. After the World Cup, I will decide.”
Although he acknowledged that his playing style “more about passing and not so physical” could extend his career, he admitted to family pressure:
“My daughter wants me to continue until 39. […] For her, I would consider it.”
Regarding his post-retirement future, he revealed:
“I would love to be the owner or president of a club, but I don't want to be a coach.”
The uncertainty about his farewell, possibly in 2027, keeps León's followers on edge, who today enjoy the Colombian's football but are beginning to worry about the future.
