China Football Association suspends 43 people for life for match-fixing


A two-year investigation into match-fixing in China has come to an end, resulting in stiff sanctions for 43 athletes.
Details: the China Football Association has suspended 43 people from soccer for life over allegations of match-fixing and other forms of corruption.
Xinhua news agency reported that the investigation involved 120 matches in national leagues, 128 suspected offenders and 41 clubs. Of those suspended, 38 were soccer players and five were officials working for various clubs.
Former Chinese national team players Jin Jingdao, Guo Tianyu and Gu Chao were among those who received lifetime disqualification from the sport.
Other players and officials were given more lenient disqualification terms, including foreign players attracted to China by promises of high salaries.
South Korea's Song Joon-ho, who played for Chinese club Shandong Taishan, and Evolo Donovan of Cameroon, formerly of Heilongjiang Ice City, were disqualified for five years.
