Calvo Grateful for Saprissa’s Interest but Committed to Staying Abroad

Francisco Calvo appreciates the affection from Deportivo Saprissa, but for now, his sights remain firmly set on continuing his international career. According to ESPN, the Costa Rican defender expressed gratitude for the support from Saprissa fans and the club itself, while reiterating his intention to play abroad for at least two or three more years.
“That affection is mutual and I’m thankful, but I’ve been clear: I want to keep playing internationally,” Calvo said while training with the national team. The 32-year-old is open to opportunities in Asia, Europe, or the Americas as he considers his next move.
Although still under contract with Turkish side Hatayspor, Calvo acknowledged that he’s already working on a transfer. “I haven’t ended my deal with Hatayspor yet, but I plan to change clubs. I have options and talks underway, but the market is just opening,” he said.
Calvo also ruled out playing in any second-tier league, stating firmly that it’s not an option at this point in his career. “I won’t play in a second division, especially with a World Cup ahead. If God allows us to qualify, I won’t take on that kind of challenge now,” he insisted.
While the interest from Saprissa is genuine and warmly received, Calvo remains focused on his international goals. A return to Costa Rican football, for now, is not on the table.
