Belgian side KV Kortrijk grants South African striker Cassius Mailola compassionate leave to travel home following the death of his brother
Cassius Mailola has been granted compassionate leave by his Belgian club KV Kortrijk.
The club released a statement detailing that the former Mamelodi Sundowns marksman is heading to South Africa to be with his family during the bereaving period.
“It is with great sadness that the club learned that Cassius Mailula’s brother recently passed away unexpectedly,” Kortrijk announced in a statement.
“During this particularly difficult time, Cassius has returned to South Africa to mourn with his family. He will therefore be absent from training and matches for the time being. Our thoughts are with him and his loved ones.
“The entire club sympathises deeply with them and wishes them strength, comfort, and solidarity. We ask that you respect his privacy and that of his family.”
Such tragedies seem to follow the player as he lost his mother while playing for Wydad Casablanca in Morocco.
Mailola is on loan at the Belgian First Division side from MSL’s FC Toronto until the end of the campaign.
He arrived in Europe in September last year where it was expected that his floundering career would come to life.
So far he has three league appearances to his name and as soon as his leave ends, Mailola will be eager to display the form which made him one of the brightest strikers South African has.
