Tolu Arokodare Scores Brace as Ajax Beat Sion 5-3 and Reach Conference League League Phase

Tolu Arokodare continued his impressive start at Ajax, scoring twice on his first start as the Dutch giants defeated Sion 5-3 on Thursday night to secure a 9-5 aggregate victory and reach the UEFA Conference League league phase.

Ajax started strongly, with Youri Baas scoring within seconds to extend their aggregate lead to 5-2. Sion responded through Winsley Boteli, who scored twice to give the visitors a 2-1 lead on the night.

Ajax restored parity three minutes later when Davy Klaassen found the net in the 39th minute. Arokodare then made his mark just before half-time, scoring to put Ajax back in front at 3-2 on the night and extend their aggregate advantage to 7-4.

The Nigerian forward completed his brace in the 51st minute, making it 4-2 and putting Ajax firmly in control of the tie. Oliver Edvardsen added a fifth goal for the hosts just four minutes later, effectively ending Sion’s hopes of a comeback.

Boteli completed his hat-trick in stoppage time to make it 5-3 on the night, but Ajax held on comfortably to win 9-5 on aggregate and advance to the Conference League league phase.

Arokodare has now scored three goals and provided two assists in his opening two appearances for Ajax.
