During the winter transfer window, we witnessed Barcelona's saga with the registration of Dani Olmo, a situation that still remains unresolved. The issue was related to financial fair play, and now the Catalan club is facing problems because of it not only in Spain.

Details: According to The Times, UEFA is concerned about the controversial financial “levers” employed by Barcelona president Joan Laporta to resolve the club’s issues. Among these is the sale of television rights, which Europe’s football governing body does not count as club profit, leading to discrepancies in Barcelona’s financial statements.

In the 2023/2024 season, Barcelona had already run into similar problems, but at that time UEFA opted for a €500,000 fine. Now, however, a much harsher punishment is expected. While the exact details remain unknown, potential sanctions could include a reduction in the number of players the club can register or even a deduction of points during the Champions League group stage.

Reminder: Barcelona contested the previous sanction in the Court of Arbitration for Sport, but the court ruled that the fine was actually a rather lenient punishment.
