The captain of Le Havre, France, Arouna Sangante, has declared that he would represent Senegal in international competitions. The adaptable defender, who was born in Mbao, Senegal, had the option of playing for France or Senegal, but he opted to join the 2021 African champions.
In an interview with Sport News Africa, Sangante expressed his unwavering commitment:
"My choice is Senegal. I was called up, but circumstances forced me to withdraw. That doesn’t mean I’ll change my mind. What matters most is my desire to represent Senegal. Competition isn’t an issue; it’s what drives improvement and helps identify areas for growth. I thrive on it because staying in your comfort zone leads to stagnation. We need that challenge."
Sangante, who excels as both a right-back and center-back, joined Le Havre in 2017 after progressing through Red Star’s youth academy. According to Transfermarkt, the 21-year-old has played 36 games in Ligue 1 and scored one goal. His worth has increased to €10 million, which is twice what it was in June 2023.
By choosing Senegal, he strengthens the team and shows his commitment to helping the country achieve more success in football.
