A new era is dawning for the Senegal national team.

Details: The Senegalese Football Federation has officially announced the initiation of procedures to terminate the contract of head coach Pape Thiaw. The decision also applies to his entire coaching staff. It was made following an executive committee meeting held on July 11 in Dakar.

The main reason behind this decision was Senegal’s performance at the 2026 World Cup. The Teranga Lions crashed out in the first round of the playoffs, falling to Belgium 2-3 after extra time.

The result was especially painful given the match scenario: Senegal led 2-0 but failed to hold their advantage, conceding the decisive goal in extra time. After the elimination, reports emerged of serious disagreements between players and the coaching staff.

Senegalese Football Federation President Abdoulaye Fall will hold a special press conference on July 13. He is expected to provide detailed explanations for the decision and to outline the upcoming reorganization of the national team.

It’s worth noting that Pape Thiaw had led Senegal since December 2024. One of the main contenders for the now-vacant position is reported to be Patrick Vieira.

Reminder: Patrick Vieira being considered as Pape Thiaw’s successor in Senegal.
