Aguirre Names Three Starters Ahead of Mexico’s Gold Cup Opener vs. Dominican Republic

Mexico’s campaign in the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup is about to begin, and head coach Javier Aguirre has offered a glimpse of his starting lineup. Ahead of Saturday’s opening clash against the Dominican Republic, Claro Sports reports that Aguirre confirmed three starters: Luis Malagón, Raúl Jiménez, and Santiago Giménez.
The match will kick off the tournament at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, on June 14 at 8:15 p.m. local time (CDMX). Mexico is part of Group A and heads into this competition with high expectations, treating it as a key step before the 2026 World Cup.
Malagón, Club América’s goalkeeper, will guard the net, while Jiménez (Fulham) and Giménez (AC Milan) will lead the attack. Aguirre’s decision suggests an aggressive lineup with two natural center-forwards and wingers pushing high on both flanks.
El Tri had a mixed warm-up, losing 4-2 to Switzerland and defeating Turkey 1-0, but the focus now is on starting the Gold Cup strong. The full starting eleven will be finalized during the final training session on Friday.
