Barcelona suffer a major setback ahead of one of their most crucial Champions League group stage encounters.
Details: Yesterday's Champions League Matchday 6 fixture between Barcelona and Eintracht not only brought joy to the Blaugrana with a hard-fought victory but also left them with some unwelcome incidents.
In the 56th minute, Barça’s 18-year-old prodigy Lamine Yamal committed a reckless foul against an Eintracht player. Referee Davide Massa showed the Spaniard a yellow card—his third of this Champions League campaign—triggering an automatic one-match suspension.
As a result, Yamal will be sidelined for the crucial Matchday 7 tie against Slavia Prague, scheduled for January 21, 2026, in Prague.
Previously, Yamal picked up yellow cards in matches against PSG and Belgian side Club Brugge.
Now Flick is left with a conundrum: who will step up to fill Yamal’s shoes in such a pivotal fixture?
This season, Yamal has featured in 17 matches for Barça, netting 8 goals and providing 10 assists.
Currently, Barcelona sit 14th in the overall Champions League group stage standings, and progression to the next round is far from assured.
Reminder: Lamine Yamal surpasses Kylian Mbappé to set Champions League record for most goal involvements by a player under 1
