Sri Lanka vs Taiwan prediction, H2H and probable lineups - June 10, 2025
In the second round of the third stage of Asian Cup qualification, Sri Lanka hosts Taiwan at the Colombo Racecourse Stadium. Here’s my prediction for this match, featuring strong odds.
Match preview
Sri Lanka sits 200th in the FIFA rankings and is considered one of the world’s weakest national teams. However, the "Golden Army" has recently shown signs of revival: their 1-0 friendly win over Brunei was their second victory in 2025 out of three games—already surpassing their entire 2024 tally.
In their opening qualifier, the Lankans lost 0-1 to Thailand, but they looked organized and disciplined, conceding only to a late first-half goal. Backed by home fans, the team could display a bolder performance, especially given their positive head-to-head record against Taiwan.
Taiwan began their qualifying campaign with a 1-2 defeat to Turkmenistan, once again exposing their main weakness—defensive instability in the closing stages. Despite a goal from Ange Kouame, Chen Sing-An’s men couldn’t even hold onto a draw, conceding the decisive strike just ten minutes from time.
The backbone of this squad remains veteran captain Chen Po-Liang, who has netted 25 goals in 93 appearances, but age and a drop in overall intensity are becoming increasingly evident. Taipei has lost three of their last four official matches and, against an improving Sri Lanka, don’t look like favorites.
Probable lineups
- Sri Lanka: Perera, Hingert, Kammerknecht, Thaiparan, Suresh, Kelaart, Rajamohan, Perera, Razek, Dekker
- Taiwan: Huang Chiu-Lin (gk), MacGill Bodele, Chen Po-Liang (c), Huang T. M., Chen C., Kang Tae-Won, Wu I., Tiao S., Yu Yao-Hsing, Estama J., Samuel A.
Match facts and head-to-head
- Sri Lanka and Chinese Taipei have met three times: one draw and two wins for Sri Lanka
- In their last encounter (2009), Sri Lanka won 2-1
- In 2025, Sri Lanka has already claimed two victories—more than in the entire previous season
Prediction
Despite their low ranking, Sri Lanka have every chance to extend their positive run at home. Taipei often falter late in matches, and their defense leaves plenty of space for opponents. A high-scoring affair is unlikely, but a narrow win for the hosts looks well within reach.
