Pafos vs Slavia Prague: prediction, head-to-head and probable lineups – 28 January 2026
One of the key fixtures of matchday 8 in the 2025/26 Champions League group stage will take place on Wednesday at the Limassol arena, where Cypriot side Pafos host Slavia Prague. I'm backing a bet on the total goals in this clash, with solid odds for success.
Match preview
The Cypriots started the tournament confidently, losing just one of their first five matches, but then hit a rough patch. Over the winter, Pafos suffered back-to-back defeats without scoring, and last week failed to pick up points away against Chelsea. Now the team is on the brink of elimination but still has a fighting chance – they must win and hope rivals slip up.
Pafos have serious attacking woes, with just four goals scored in the entire group stage. Disciplinary and personnel issues have made matters worse: Ivan Šunjić is suspended and defender Pedrão is sidelined through injury. Even so, the team consistently battles at home, losing only to Bayern in their last six Champions League fixtures on their own turf.
The Prague outfit has disappointed its supporters: Slavia have not won a single match and have already lost any hope of reaching the play-offs. After a couple of draws early on, the team slumped, losing their last two games in a row – including against Barcelona. Their away form has also faltered, with the Czechs failing to score in four consecutive Champions League road games.
In European competitions, Slavia are winless in 14 straight matches, and in the current group stage they've collected just three points. Lacking tournament motivation and with several key players out (Ševčík and Javůrek are unavailable), the Prague side will likely struggle to regroup. The coaching staff may give rotational players a chance, which could further disrupt chemistry and add unpredictability.
Probable lineups
- Pafos: Gorter, Luckassen, David Luiz, Sema, Bruno, Goldar, Pepe, Dragomir, Jajá, Oršić, Anderson
- Slavia Prague: Staněk, Holeš, Zima, Haloupek, Sanyang, Sadílek, Moses, Douděra, Kushej, Provod, Chory
Match facts and head-to-head
- Both teams have scored just 4 goals in 7 matchdays – the lowest tally in the tournament.
- Slavia are winless in their last 18 Champions League main stage matches.
- In 5 of Pafos's 7 matches and 5 of Slavia's 6, at least one team failed to score.
Prediction
Both sides are tournament outsiders, so we’re set for a clash without a clear favorite, but only Pafos have something left to play for. The Czechs are already out, while the Cypriots could still sneak into the play-offs if results go their way. Betting on pragmatic football with low scoring seems the logical choice here.
