The replacement of the coach was not helpful enough: being under the rule of Thomas Letsch, there were only a couple of successes even in the winter, albeit in the pretty bright way - a 3-1 victory in the match with Hertha and a 5-2 one in the battle against Hoffenheim. Nevertheless, the rest of the matches in January-February were lost both in the DFB Pokal and, that is the most important, in the Bundesliga. After the higher mentioned results, it is not surprising that the previous round brought a 0-2 defeat in the struggle with “resurgent” Schalke.
