Ukrainian heavyweight world champion Oleksandr Usyk has sparked a fresh wave of debate about his political future, effectively confirming that he harbors ambitions to lead the country.
Details: In a high-profile conversation, the recording of which was released by Russian pranksters, the athlete did not shy away from a direct question about his willingness to assume the presidency.
"Maybe. But it’s very difficult. If God gives me a chance, if God sends me a sign," Usyk emphasized, thus shifting his earlier hints into the realm of a concrete political agenda.
Despite the provocative nature of the call itself, his words clearly signal his potential plans to trade boxing gloves for the mantle of national leadership in the foreseeable future.
Usyk placed particular emphasis in his campaign rhetoric on fighting corruption, declaring that without overcoming it, Ukraine has no future. His stance proved uncompromising:
"If you treat Ukraine badly, go, get out. I don’t know, maybe to the front line," Usyk concluded.
Reminder: Oleksandr Usyk supported Ukrainian skeleton athlete Vladyslav Heraskevych after his disqualification from the 2026 Olympic Games.
