Independiente Santa Fe have officially appointed Jorge Bava as their new head coach. The Uruguayan manager arrives as a free agent after leaving Liga MX side León in September 2024. His hiring was announced by the Colombian club on Thursday through social media, welcoming him with the message: “Jorge Bava is the new Head Coach of Independiente Santa Fe. Welcome to the First Champion.”
Bava had previously enjoyed a strong spell with Liverpool Montevideo, coaching the Uruguayan side from June 2021 to December 2023. His tenure there earned praise for its tactical discipline and steady results. Now, he takes on the challenge of reviving a Santa Fe team currently struggling in Liga BetPlay.
Bava is no stranger to Colombian football. In 2006, he played briefly as a goalkeeper for Atlético Bucaramanga, adding familiarity to his new role. Though Francisco López and Robinson Zapata will remain in charge for the upcoming game against Unión Magdalena, Bava is expected to make his debut on the bench in the following fixture against Deportivo Pasto.
The club hopes that Bava’s leadership and experience will steer Santa Fe back on course as they aim to climb the standings and return to prominence in Colombian football.
